The FU-TOURISM programme, an initiative funded by the European Commission through the Single Market Program (SMP-COSME), will be presented at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), held in Madrid. The event will take place on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 12:30 to 13:00 in the Pavilion of the Valencian Community. During this event, the FU-TOURISM Acceleration Programme will be unveiled, with a special focus on Spain, explaining how the project will contribute to the digital and sustainable transformation of the tourism sector. The program will detail how it will support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism sector, offering grants of up to 20,000 euros, alongside specialized training and personalized mentoring, to help these businesses innovate and adapt to new market challenges.
Two partners from the program’s consortium will be present at the project presentation: the Council of Valencia, with its innovation center, Valencia Innovation Capital (Spain), and the Finnova Foundation (Belgium), with a project that includes other partners from five more countries: Envolve (Greece), SYNYO (Austria), Vestbee (Poland), Open Impact (Italy), and Eupolis (Croatia). On one hand, Juan Manuel Revuelta, general director of the Finnova Foundation, will moderate and introduce the event. Adrián Noheda, project manager at the Foundation, will explain the digital and sustainable innovation approach that characterizes FU-TOURISM and how SMEs can benefit from this unique opportunity to implement eco-friendly and technological solutions in their businesses. On the other hand, Noelia Rigoberto, technician from the Tourism and Internationalization Service of the Ajuntament de València, will highlight the impact the program will have on the Valencia destination, emphasizing the city’s commitment to sustainability and the digitalization of the tourism sector. Both representatives will delve into how Spanish companies can take advantage of this initiative to improve their competitiveness at the European level.
FU-TOURISM: A digital and sustainable tourism innovation project applicable in six European countries
FU-TOURISM aims to support tourism SMEs in six European countries such as Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Spain, Greece, and Poland, providing them with access to grants for projects focused on key areas like urban tourism, sustainable mobility, digital and cultural tourism, and inclusive and social tourism. The program seeks to promote the de-seasonalization and decentralization of tourism, the promotion of renewable energy, and the implementation of digital technologies to improve the traveler experience. In addition to grants of 20,000 euros, participating companies will have access to specialized training and personalized mentoring to help them carry out their digital and green transformation.
The program is also part of a broader European effort to build a more sustainable and digital tourism ecosystem. As part of this approach, FU-TOURISM is piloting the strategic development of two tourist destinations: Valencia (Spain) and Poreč-Parenzo (Croatia), which will serve as examples of best practices, demonstrating how sustainability and digital innovation can transform tourism at the European level. This event at FITUR represents a unique opportunity to gain in-depth insight into the program, as well as the funding, training, and mentoring opportunities it offers to tourism SMEs seeking to innovate and adapt to the sector’s new challenges.
